yummy finds

Do you like how I said I would be around here less often and then start posting more?  

We'll see if this keeps up :)

Last weekend I sold my things at Fleaology.   I had never been before and now I am hooked!

There was so many beautiful things there and all for very reasonable prices.  Too bad I'm lame and didn't take any pictures, they have some pictures on their blog you could go check out.  The amazing quilt I found was only $5!  It's about 36" square and I want to hang it on the wall somewhere.  The pom pom trims are vintage and so much yummier than any brand new pom pom trims.

The two pieces of fabric I found were purchased at the Treasures Antique mall in Springville.  That was the first time I had been there and I was lame again and didn't take pictures, there are two big buildings full of fun finds, I think Casey and I spent at least two hours there.

I also got the cutest little shelf for my girls, I'll share that when we find some time to clean up the playroom and find a place for it.  And I found a really cute vintage dress for me, I'll share that later too.

Have a good weekend! I hope you have something fun planned!  Around here there is going to be cleaning the playroom, getting rid of stuff, sewing, yummy weekend breakfasts, and just hanging out.

Happy 400th post!

Today is post 400! And to celebrate I have cut 6 1/2 inch squares of some of my most favorite vintage linens. There are five squares each of 16 different yummy prints. That is enough to make a 48" x 60" lap quilt, you could even add borders to it to make it larger. I think they would make a very soft, yummy quilt.

Quilting and vintage yummies

I am trying to take a break from sewing this week, I am getting a bit burnt out. But I did decide that maybe I will get some quilting bees done, I may even do some sewing for myself this week. But no sewing large batches of things this week! It's break time!

Yesterday I made this quilt block for Becca from the Stash Busting Bee. She sent the cute vintage looking kitchen fabric and the red gingham, the rest is from my stash.

I realized I haven't shown any of my thrifty or vintage finds lately. When we were in Denver we went to The Brass Armadillo antique mall.

I LOVE that place. It was fun watching my kids there too, I thought they would enjoy it because there are so many fun things to look at. (Casey and I came here a few years ago.) Kinsley was amazed at everything and we kept having to tell her to hurry up a bit. There are rows where things are behind glass doors and I swear her face was pressed up against the glass trying to get in. I would hear Jade and Sage talking to each other about things: "I want that bird" or "Ohhh! Look at the cute little piggy!" or "Mom! look at the tiny furniture!" I think we spent at least 2 1/2 hours at this store. And then another day, My Dad, my Mom and I went back for another hour or so. My Mom has a weakness for jewelry and there was plenty of it there. So, this was my haul of goodies. A whole bolt of the sweetest vintage flannel, a roll of mushroom print contact paper, some sweet strawberry napkins, a couple of doilies, a bird appliqued tea towel, buttons, some crochet lace, 12 different vintage handkerchiefs, and some feedsack fabric with matchstick books printed on it. Yummy stuff!

I haven't forgotten about the giveaway I promised, I just haven't been able to decide what to give away, but I think I have it figured out! I think it will be next week!

The ultimate vintage sectional

So, we bought this most awesome gold velvet vintage couch a few weeks ago. The day we got it, we had to just stick it in our shed because it was dark when we got home with it. Today we pulled it out so it could be measured to see if it would actually fit in our house.

(Good news, it will.)

And so I could take a before picture of it.

I have big plans for this couch.

We'll see when I get time. My original plan was to wait awhile to redo it, because we actually have a great sofa and chairs already. But for the first time, my husband actually has an opinion on something in our home and I guess would like a new couch and he thinks this one is awesome. (who wouldn't think a gold velvet sectional is awesome?)

I have never reupholstered a couch before, but I'm kindof excited.

Delicious Dresses

One of my friends has agreed to take our Family picture, so I decided the occasion called for new dresses for my girls. Do part of them look familiar? It took me awhile to finish them, I am in need of a sewing break (I am talking like at least a month) so I haven't been very motivated in any sewing projects, plus I was showing my girls my ideas to embellish them, and they said they didn't like it, I ended up doing it anyway. Turns out they love them! So do I!
My inspiration came from this orange skirt from Anthropologie.

There are so many fun details on these dresses. Vintage French Eyelet Lace, vintage lace, crocheted doilies, vintage buttons (some of which were my Great Grandmother's)

After I got done making them, I thought it would be fun to make some to sell, but I think I would have to sell them for around $40, so I am not sure about that yet.

I want to eat them up in all their deliciousness.
At some point, I think I will be making myself a skirt in this style.

Vintage Wallpaper Project

I said I would share my idea for the vintage wallpaper that I thrifted last week. So, easiest project ever. All you do is cut the wallpaper to fit the front of your card, glue it on, and this is important!, Put the finished cards under heavy books while they dry or else they will become all warped. I also used vintage contact paper, and that was even easier, just cut it out, peel off the back and stick it on! So easy and so cute in my opinion!I made up a bunch to sell at Oh sweet Sadie! this weekend. I am very pleased with how they turned out!

Thrifty Goodness

I noticed I haven't shared any of my thrifty finds lately, so I decided it was time.

These cute little forest creatures were not thrifted, I found them on Etsy, but I wanted to share them. Remember these salt and pepper shakers? Now they have some more friends. Don't ask me where they are being displayed, I haven't figured that out yet.

Here are some thrifty finds from earlier this week. Some cool fabric, a vintage tablecloth, still with the tag on it, a sheet and some pillowcases, a cool vintage tray, lots of zippers (I guess it's time to learn how to do a zipper), and some vintage wallpaper. I have a cool project in mind for the wallpaper, I will post about it later.

I think the Thrifting Gods knew that I have been wanting some really cool vintage mushroom fabric, I stared at this fabric for awhile at the thrift store wondering if I was dreaming because this is the COOLEST MUSHROOM FABRIC EVER!

Vintage Sheet Swap

I participated in a vintage sheet swap hosted by Elizabeth of Oh, Fransson!

I sent in 58 fat quarters (I know that's a lot!) And in return got 58 fat quarters, how fun! I was so excited when I received my box, Kinsley and I opened up each fat quarter and admired and caressed them. Here are some of my favorite ones and the cute little card that Elizabeth sent with it, she had over 70 people participate, what alot of work!

Aren't they all so beautiful? I will be making some quilts out of some of them, and am undecided what else I will be making from them, any ideas?

Vintage Napkins

I just love vintage napkins, here is some of my collection, don't they look so cute ? I think my favorite is the orange and yellow large flower print one on the right, I found four of them for $1 and they even have the original Vera sticker on each of them, I haven't been able to make myself take them off yet. After taking this picture, I think it would be a fun idea to do a display like this on a wall with vintage fabric, I've seen it done with embroidery hoops, or you could even strech the fabric over canvas, I've even seen cool shaped canvas' at Robert's craft store. I need to have a tea party so I can use them all.

Vintage childrens books

I have had a renewed obsession with vintage childrens books, I have always loved them but have been inspired by a fellow blogger doe-c-doe to continue to build my collection. So here are some of them, one of my favorites being The Thinking Book.

vintage lovelies

It has been so warm and springy here that a few days ago we had a picnic at the park. Which was the perfect excuse to get out my most perfect picnic basket that I found at one of my favorite second hand stores. I don't know if it is vintage or not, but it is way cool, it is metal. I also had to throw in the vintage embroidered tablecloth that I love. It has one of my favorites, butterflies on it. My great grandmother made it.

vintage salt and pepper shakers

My mom had tons of these from my great grandmother, she wanted to get rid of some of them, so I went through them and brought a few home. I think I may need to find a shelf for them so I can display them in my kitchen. I have always kindof been fascinated by vintage salt and pepper shakers and these ones were so cute. I think my favorite ones are the gnomes. Then I would have to say the penquins, just because my children for some reason are in love with penquins lately. What is it about vintage salt and pepper shakers that make them so lovable?

Birdy Love

These are some of the purses I finished today, they all are some of my new designs. I am in love with these little birdies on these purses. They are my favorite of all the birds I have made so far. Now I am going to have to make me another purse with a birdy.

This weeks great finds

This week I found some really great things. First, I found this great pair of shoes. The snow just needs to melt so that I can wear them. I want it to be spring, no more cold! I found them at Target for $15. Target is one of the best stores. My next find is this great piece of vintage fabric heavy enough to make purses with, I love it! Then I found a box of glass snack sets, to add to my collection (I have 50+ sets of these). A little obsessive maybe, but they are the cutest dishes. These also make me want it to be spring so that I can have a tea party in my backyard. My last find was the cutest vintage apron that matches my kitchen, I should start wearing aprons.

Hobo Bags

Here is a picture of my new hobo bags. Most of them are made with vintage or reclaimed fabric. I saw a version of them at Urban Outfitters and came home and made my version. I think they turned out pretty cute! Hopefully I will sell a few too.
