Fabric play

 This pile of DS quilts fabric came home with me today, it's yummy and oh so soft.

 This is the fabric I have decided to use for my swoon quilt. It's called Too Muchery by Helen Dardik.  I have decided that I will be doing 5 swoon blocks and the other 4 blocks will be made of the panel print.

This might be weird, but I feel a little out of my comfort zone because this is all one collection, I have never made a quilt out of one collection, I usually go the mixy matchy route.

And this is my hope valley all cut and ready for my made in cherry quilt.  Also a bit out of my comfort zone because it is one collection.

What have I gotten myself into joining two quilt alongs?  

And I told myself I wasn't going to join any this year until I had all my unfinished quilts completed.

That worked well :)

Fabric and other things

Recently acquired fabric that I couldn't pass by, it's by Anna Griffin and it's called Penelope.

I think that it may become a skirt because how awesome would that be to have a skirt with sewing themed fabric?

I've lost my sewing mojo.  Which is awful timing because I have waaayyy to much to do.  I have been getting bits of lots of things done slowly, but I have got to kick it up a few notches here soon or I am going to be in trouble.  You see all those shows that I am participating in I have listed in my sidebar?  Yeah.

I'm really grateful that our family is pretty much healthy, but sometimes I get a bit frustrated with the few things that we do have to deal with.  Sometimes it's hard to remember to do things daily so that my kids stay healthy and I get a bit overwhelmed at times.  Add a diabetic husband to that and at times I think I worry too much.

I just need to do my best and be grateful that it's not things that are more serious than what they are :)

The diabetes thing is a hard one though.

My new favorite breakfast is Greek lemon yogurt with homemade granola on top, yum!

We have way too much candy in our house thanks to Halloween.  I just ate a butterfinger after I finished my breakfast.

Weekend

 I have been working on a quilt for Jade, over the weekend I finished cutting all the pieces out.  They are now organized so that I can quickly piece them together.   It will still probably take me awhile to get the whole thing made though, I have too many other projects to work on too.

A local quilt shop has awesome deals on their clearance fabric section every fifth Saturday, so I went to see what they had and I ended up purchasing 8 yards of fabric all at 60% off!  Not that I needed fabric :)

Casey and I went on a double date with one of his work friends, we ate at Joe's Crab Shack and went to see Crazy, Stupid, Love, which gave us a good laugh.

It is rainy here today, I like summertime rain, it smells delish.

Shop Hop!

 I wasn't originally planning on going to all of Shop Hop, but my girls said they wanted to go, so go we went.

They were so good too, I was pleasantly surprised, especially since to finish the whole thing I bet it took us around 12-14 hours, but we did spread it out between 3 days.  Here's my pile of goodies, there is also an order of fabric that came in the mail yesterday in there.

 I thought I would break it down into separate purchases, for some reason most of the time when I purchase fabric it usually all coordinates.  And it is not because I have a project in mind for it, I buy fabric because I love it and then I figure out later what to do with it.

This was my order from Fabric.com, most of it is AMH Loulouthi except for the three on the right.

These are some of favorites that I got, that yellow is from Lecien and it feels oh so lovely, I have a piece of vintage fabric that it feels just like it. Oh and see?  I told you I coordinate my purchases :)

 This was actually from two shops, that yellow and black on the left was from one and the rest came from another.  Aren't the bikes and the green one with the birds and what looks like bike wheels on it so cute?  They are organic from Birch Fabrics and they feel lovely.

 These ones were just over $4 a yard, and there were many, many more yummy feedsack prints that I wanted, but I restrained myself because I had already spent too much money.   :)

At the shop where I purchased these ones, my girls were just playing around, but they kept saying that they were biting each other and I got a little tired of it, and I said the next time I hear that someone is biting, I am going to bite you all.  They thought that was the funniest thing ever and couldn't stop laughing :)

These were all my free goodies!  some fat quarters, some fat eighths, a charm pack for finishing the whole shop hop, a little kit to make a bookmark, and a toadstool pincushion kit.  Jade won a couple games too and she picked out fabric for herself, she didn't even want to share it with me which I thought was cute.

We had fun driving about the whole Wasatch valley, not sure if I would do it again, but my girls and I had fun, it makes me happy that they are grown up enough to enjoy something like this with me.   :)

A sweet little heart and a new crush

This is one of Sage's favorite pair of leggings, and they have had a hole in the knee for quite some time and I finally put a patch on it, I was sick of seeing her wear them with a hole :) I think it looks so cute.

Lately, I have found myself having a little crush on civil war fabrics. Mind you, I am very choosy about which ones, but I have a crush none the less.

fabric, a sneak peek, and a confession

I couldn't help but to purchase some Ruby Star Rising, I absolutely love this fabric. I mean seriously, view masters, transistor radios, and tea pots? Here's where I purchased mine.

It's killing me not to be able to show you this quilt I have been working on. I think it is my favorite quilt I have made so far. I just have the binding left to finish on it. But I can't show you it until after I give it to my sister who is having a baby boy who will be named Preston.
I guess I am just going to have to be patient and wait until after the shower, it's going to be a few weeks. It's the cutest thing ever though, I promise, my girls even want to keep it for themselves.

Here's the confession part of the post:
I spent my entire evening (cough cough, like 4 or so hours cough cough) last night looking online for anything to do with American Girl dolls. You see, Santa brought Kinsley an American Girl doll for Christmas and now for her Birthday she wants more outfits for it. The thing is, that Santa had a really hard time forking over the $100 for the doll and $28 for one extra outfit, Santa doesn't even want to mention how much it cost to get it shipped.
Now maybe you are thinking hey, that Vintage Fern girl knows how to sew, why doesn't she just make clothes? Well, I will make some, but the thought of sewing little tiny clothes from a pattern makes me want to pull my hair out and say bad words. I told Kinsley I will make a pillowcase dress and some skirts and a tutu, and maybe a few other simple things, but that is as far as I go. Enter spending my entire night online searching through tons of listings on Etsy, googling 18" doll clothes and tutorials, and searching local KSL ads. I was also looking into crochet patterns, I have an aunt that has awesome crochet skills and I think I may ask her to crochet some things. In the end, I ordered a couple outfits that Kinsley had picked out because Nana (my mom) wanted her to find something for her Birthday that is coming up next month.
And then, through my searches on KSL, I found this cute shop online Daydream Doll Boutique.
They have well priced cute things, and I spent forever deciding what few things to get to go with what I will be making for her. I feel like kindof a dork, but I am super excited now about making a few things and getting everything put together for her Birthday.
I may feel like even more of a dork in April, my Mom is taking my 3 sisters and I to the Mall of America, and guess what store is there? The American Girl Store, I will probably get just as excited to go look in there :)

This is what happens

When I go to just check out a new to me quilt shop and I am not going to purchase anything :)

I think I am going to make a skirt out of them but minus the polka dot near the bottom, and I think I'll add a blue in there.
Sometimes I can tell my mood when I make a fabric purchase, or I just tend to prefer certain colors or patterns some days. I am quite happy with my little bundle of fabric today, it looks so fun together.
I'm off to go chop it up!

Obsess much?

This is the result of 4 Joann's stores and lots of fabric ripping.
I can't seem to make enough of this stuff to make potholders. So it was the perfect time to find some cheap fabric because Joann's is currently having 50% off their red tag fabrics. $1.50 a yard? yes please.

At our house we are currently trying to clean up after the whirlwind that is Christmas :)
I'll share some more things I made my girls for Christmas soon.

Yellow leaves and scrap vomit

I've been wanting to take a picture of our tree in the front yard before it turns any more brown, I think it is beautiful.

And I will let you know how crazy I am. I saw this quilt on flickr a few months ago and loved it. Isn't it amazing?
Now, Katy is doing a quilt along.
So, last night I pulled out my huge bag of scraps and started cutting. Casey laughed at all the scraps I had :) Now, let me explain a little about how much I have on my to do list at the moment: I need to get caught up for the past two months for quilting bee blocks, I need to write up a tutorial for a soon to be guest post, and I have a ginormous list of things to get done for upcoming holiday shows. There is not time for me to be cutting up what seemed like a million 2.5" squares. Well, I did it anyways, I needed some time to do something for me :)

So now I have all 965 scrap squares cut out. And my scraps are much more manageable now :) I still need to get some black and blue cut, but I'll save that for another time.

Good mail day

It was like my birthday in the mail today, I got to open four different packages :)

Of course some of them had fabric. Most of the fabric I got from Hawthorne Threads, I LOVE the measuring tape and vintage catalog fabric.

And I got lots of supplies for earrings, hair pins, rings, and headbands.

I will be busy gluing tonight.

A break from the computer is good

It was nice having to take a break from the computer. It was cleansing :)

We had our annual fall marshmallow roasting up the canyon last week.

We tried using chocolate covered graham crackers this time, we liked it, but decided next time we will try dipping our own, just on one side, so it won't be so messy.

I love these girls, they are so stinkin cute.

thrifting, fabric, and a new bag

I continue to go thrifting on Mondays and I keep finding awesome things. Yesterday it was a never been used vintage towel and the cutest tablecloth. I got all excited when I saw the tablecloth, I love the big flowers and the colors.

Here are some recent fabric purchases. I snatched up some of Anna Maria Horner's innocent crush, I love, love, love the star burst print. Those bird cages are from JoAnn's.
I have been having a crush on gingham lately and found the grey and tangerine colors and had to have it.

I was near IKEA yesterday and had a bit of extra time so I went in to check out the fabrics and found this wood grain fabric, and some cute placemats to repurpose.

I was excited and made up a couple bags like this with the placemats last night.

They are kinda funky and I love it. The back of the bag is the same stripe as the handle. I originally was going to leave it kinda plain, and then decided it needed a little embellishment, so I made a flower pin to put on it.

Now, I am off to cut out new bags as I have aquired a new pile of upholstery fabrics (for free I might add!) And I am so happy to have my sewing mojo back!

More fabric :)

So, I have been trying to avoid going anywhere because when I go places I spend money. At the moment I don't really have any money to spend :) I had to make a run out to my hubby's work to take him his wallet cause he left it home. I thought to myself, I am already like 1/3 of the way to Material Girl's Quilt shop, why not drive the rest of the way? I may have known that they were having a sale too :) So, I spent $20 for all this yumminess, the fat quarters were buy 5 get one free and that bottom fabric with the tree and bird was $3 a yard, so I bought the remaining 3 yards cause I love it so.

So I decided that I can justify my purchase because I needed to get out of the house at least once this week :)

Weekend plans around here include dropping the kidlets off to Casey's Mom's to sleep over tonight because Casey and I are going to be selling my things at the Avenues Street Fair tomorrow from 9am until 6pm on 7th avenue between I and N streets in Salt Lake City.

Which also means that we get date night tonight! Yay! Plans for date night include going to the Burch Creek Mercantile, it's close to Casey's Mom's house plus, they have an antique soda fountain. It will be fun. Plus, Casey's dream is to one day open his own old fashioned soda shoppe, wouldn't that be fun? I told him I will need my own area to sell my wares :)

My girls, on their first day of school yesterday. Out of the bunch of pictures I took of all three of them together this was as good as it's gonna get :)

Also, let this serve as a before they got there hair cut yesterday picture, they all have super cute new hair cuts, I'm going to take a picture later today. I got my hair cut too :)

My month

I finally got all my fabric cut to send out to my fellow bee members from A Notion or Two.

Phew! that was alot of cutting and sorting.

This quilt is going to be so much fun, I can't wait!

Now I just need to get to them to the post office.

More fabric

So, I wasn't going to go to any stores for the Shop Hop because I have already been making many fabric purchases online the past bit (I won't even mention how much fabric has been purchased, I'll just say ALOT) But then my Mom called yesterday morning wondering if I had ever been to the Shop Hop and then she invited me to go with her yesterday and we went to three of my favorite shops, Broadbent's, Material Girls, and Pine Needles.

Well, this is the stack I came home with :) All on sale of course, the yardage at the bottom was $2 - 3 a yard. Some of the fat quarters I got for $1, a few were for free, my Mom gave me her free ones too!

Serious fabric addictions going on here people.

What spring break looks like in 2010

This week is spring break for my kids, this is what we woke up to this morning, Ugh!

Outside I went for a closer inspection. See that tree that is leaning towards our home? It looks like it is leaning even worse if you look at it from our backyard. Every time it gets super windy I pray that our home will be safe from our tree. We really don't want to cut it down because in the summer it is a tree sent from heaven and it shades our whole backyard and our home.

Today my prayers for the tree were answered, see how easily this thing could have broken our window? I am feeling grateful that nothing was harmed.
I am getting impatient for spring to arrive and stay though :)

I did get a happy package of fabric yesterday. All on sale yay!

Grannying

Last night I went to Kelly's crochet class. I LOVE crocheting, I have forever wanted to learn, and now I can! I had a little bit of yarn about the house, today I went and bought some more :)

My first granny square is the cream one I did in class , then after I purchased my yarn today I started the colorful granny squares. Granny squares are addicting I must say. I am going to make a blanket out of them. I am thinking they would look most lovely with a cream layer added to the outside of each one. I went to three stores today trying to find a different colors of cotton yarn, I think I may have to buy some online, they have alot of colors here.

I got another yummy package of fabric in the mail, again ordered from Fabricworm.
Seriously, I have a problem.

I've also been working on pinwheel quilt squares and cleaning the house.

I really need to get my butt in gear and tackle the huge list of things I need to get made for upcoming art shows. I think my list has about 30 different things on it.
