simple sampler quilt along week 1 & 2 plus other news

Even though I have other things I should have been working on yesterday, this is one of the things I got finished. Week 1 and 2 of the simple sampler quilt along. Aren't they cute? I am loving them :)
In other news, we went to Bear Lake over the weekend with my family, which was fun and I'll share pictures.
Casey thinks he lost his Ipod Touch, poor guy :(
Oh! And I have exciting news! I was excepted into Craft Lake City! Even cooler, is that I was interviewed to be in Slug Magazine in August! As part of their little write up for Craft Lake City! How cool is that? It was the first time I have ever been interviewed. Now I have to be patient for August to come :)

fabric yarn factory

So, you know those potholders you made when you were little with the looper thingies?
Kinsley has been making those for awhile and we decided it was time to make some nicer ones.
So, yesterday it was a fabric yarn factory in our house. Once I got making it, it was sortof addicting and therapeutic to rip all that fabric. Plus, Kinsley gets going on these things and she churns the potholders out, so I wanted a nice stash of fabric yarn ready for her :) Most of it is from vintage sheets.

I bought an awesome loom from Craftsanity. They have a few different sizes, I am thinking about getting another size or two if Kinsley keeps making them.

Here is a finished one that I made, I had to try it out too! They are fun and quick to make, no wonder Kinsley loves them!
Kinsley is going to make these to sell at craft shows with me isn't that the cutest? My 10 year old artist :)

Cupcake party

party decorations = recycled cards and calendars that I have saved, and some paper doilies, all I did was punch circles out of them and sew them together.

The aprons I made for each girl, and since only two of the girls came, I have lots of extras, I'll be listing some in my shop next week.

cupcake decorations

lots of cupcakes, yum!

colorful icing

Sprinkles which looked so cute in gelato cups that I have saved.

The girls got to take their cupcake masterpieces home in their own cupcake boxes.

favors

This was one of the only pictures we got during the party, we were too busy helping the girls. At this point, they were done decorating and they started eating a cupcake. It was a crappy picture too and it looked better in black and white. One of my favorite things during the party, I asked the girls if they were having fun, and one of the girls that came said "This is so awesome!"
I am glad they had fun! I had fun planning it, I just wish more girls than two would have shown up. My girls were a bit bummed that only two of the girls invited showed up, but they handled it really well and we still had a ton of fun!

Weekend sewing

I've been wanting to make myself a Dresden plate pillow ever since I made my first one.

I used all vintage or vintage inspired prints and I LOVE this pillow!

Now I want a Dresden plate quilt :)

Thrifty finds on a Saturday evening

I found myself alone this evening for a couple of hours after the cupcake party was over. (which was fun but a bummer at the same time, only two girls showed up for the party, I'll share pictures another day) The girls went with Kinsley to her biological Dad's house for a bit and Casey went to a REAL Salt Lake soccer game with a friend. Anyways, I headed to my favorite thrift store and found these two lovelies, a vintage enamel pot with the loveliest of flowers on it that I will use for storing craft supplies or something and a vintage handmade apron that I will pull apart for the cute fabric. I felt quite pleased with myself as I left the thrift store treasures in hand :)
Now I must go and figure out what is going to be done with one million left over cupcakes. Maybe I will eat my third chocolate with orange frosting one for the day :)

More fabric

So, I wasn't going to go to any stores for the Shop Hop because I have already been making many fabric purchases online the past bit (I won't even mention how much fabric has been purchased, I'll just say ALOT) But then my Mom called yesterday morning wondering if I had ever been to the Shop Hop and then she invited me to go with her yesterday and we went to three of my favorite shops, Broadbent's, Material Girls, and Pine Needles.

Well, this is the stack I came home with :) All on sale of course, the yardage at the bottom was $2 - 3 a yard. Some of the fat quarters I got for $1, a few were for free, my Mom gave me her free ones too!

Serious fabric addictions going on here people.

Simple Sampler Quilt Along

So, I don't know what is wrong with me other than I guess I feel like I need to have one million projects going on at the same time, but I am joining the simple sampler quilt along hosted by Amy. Look how cute though!

Here is the fabric I chose to make mine with. I am dying over that one on the top of the stack that looks like pattern directions, I found it at Hancock Fabrics the other day, I love it!

Cupcake Party favors

I am getting ready for my girl's cupcake party this Saturday. Today I put together the favor bags, these were so much fun to put together. I had way too many ideas of what to put in the bags and had to narrow it down.
Here's what we ended up with:
I bought popcorn bags to put everything in, super cute! Purchased from Hey Yoyo.
I made cupcake notebooks
chocolate pennies found at the World Market
a bag of gumballs
cute dish cloths I found at the dollar store (2 for $1) that I appliqued cupcakes on
Bakery stickers purchased from Cupcake Confessional that will fit perfectly in the vending machine capsules purchased from Hey Yoyo
a cute box of Japanese gum found at the World Market
and a fortune teller fish purchased from Cupcake Confessional

Today

We are FINALLY going to plant our garden today, I will head to the garden store and buy fertilizer and plants so everything is ready when Casey gets home from work. Hopefully I can still get what I need.

I will be working on my mystery quilt for my Patchwork Posse group.

And I will be admiring these flowers that sit along the north side of our home, so pretty!
By the way, that is our neighbors driveway and it is made of tiny rocks and it hurts really bad to walk on it with bare feet, the rocks stick to your feet, ouch!

And I wish these were mine, they are our neighbors.

Cute dress/tunic

About a month ago, I tested a pattern out for Owly Baby.

I was looking through pictures this morning and saw these and wanted to share because I thought it was super cute.

Her instructions are easy to follow and this was a fun little dress to make!

I think I am going to have to make another soon to check out the changes she made to the pattern after it was tested!

And don't you just love the owl fabric? I adore it, it is from a sheet I bought at Urban Outfitters awhile ago.

Bijou Market

I thought I would share some pictures from Bijou Market. Here is my booth.
It was set in a beautiful orchard.

a closer look at my table

Casey and I set up my booth and then played in Orem/Provo for the day.
We went to Sammy's for lunch and shared a cupshake, yes, I said a cupshake, a shake made with a cupcake, yum.

Bijou Market was a success and it was super fun!
And now, since I don't have any shows for a few months or farmer's market, I have started to update my neglected shop slowly. I plan on adding more fun things every week!

altered half slip for me and trades

Hanging out in Orem/Provo yesterday I purchased this cute flowery dress.
Like alot of short dresses, it was a bit too short for me. I usually will wear leggings or pants with a dress like this.

This morning before we headed out to our niece Hallie's blessing, I decided that I wanted to alter this half slip that I had picked up at the thrift store a couple weeks ago.
So I cut strips of muslin for ruffles and also added thrifted lace. So now I have a cute slip to wear under any dress that needs to be just a bit longer.

I traded for a few fun things at the Bijou Market yesterday too! These earrings are from
MD Sparks, I love her earrings! I got one other cute pair too.

And I got this cute crochet flower clip from Emily Sparks.
Trading is always fun!

Bijou Market

I will be set up at the Bijou Market on Saturday. I am super excited to be able to participate with all of the talent that will be there.
If you are anywhere near, you don't want to miss out!

Cupcake invitations

I promised my girls this summer we would have a cupcake party and they could each invite two friends. Because a cupcake party would be fun and because I don't do birthday parties with friends, we do them with family. Anyways, these are the invites, I cut the cupcakes out of fabric and just sewed them down and then added a lace ruffle.
I think the party planning is alot of the fun. I've been gathering fun little things for favors, and I have all the supplies I need to make each girl an apron. I have fun cupcake liners. I need to find some cupcake boxes so each girl can take home some cupcakes they decorate. I need to take a visit to see my friend who still works at the bakery I worked at for nine years so I can find some cute cupcake decorations. Fun, fun!

weekend fun

(Sage wearing the balloon creation my children made as a hat.)
Our little family had a nice long weekend, there was swimming, fishing (I did not go fishing, I hate fishing, and I hate trout, bleh)
There was kids going to the zoo with Nana and Papa and Casey and I drove to Park City and hung out.
There was family and laughing.
There was weeding the garden (finally) so we can plant soon.
I even got some sewing done.
It was a nice weekend indeed.
